According to Google’s support page, users can make the change by going to Settings > Search Settings > Appearance. There they can choose light, dark or device default, which automatically follows the computer mode.

Google stated that the setting will be “rolled out in the coming weeks,” for users who haven’t seen the Appearance option, as many of the updates do.

9to5Google reported that some users are still seeing a quick toggle icon for the sun, and a few people have the option to enable the change in Google’s mobile web version. Neither change is mentioned in Google’s announcement.

Obviously there have been other extensions up to now to enable dark mode, but that’s no longer necessary as Google has officially made it available as a setting for those who just couldn’t be bothered to buy an extension. install or switch search providers.
