dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said the federal government would forge a strategic alliance with the Kano state government for the development of science, technology and innovation (STI).
This is stated in a statement by Josephine Ademu, press and PR officer of the ministry, in Abuja on Tuesday.
That said Onu Monday during a working visit to Bayero University Kano (BUK) in Kano.
He said the alliance that would empower key stakeholders in STD development in the state will also lead to effective coordination.
The minister said such coordination would enable tertiary academic research institutes to engage the Organized Private Sector (OPS) in the development of abundant agricultural, mineral and human resources in the state.
He assured that his ministry would work closely with the Kano State government to harness the power of STI in harvesting the state’s abundant resources for the good of all.
The benefits of the strategic alliance, he said, would ensure that scientific research results in Nigerian labs could be easily converted into products and services.
On the ministry’s recent name change to include innovation, Onu said the ministry was better positioned as the custodian of innovation development in Nigeria.
He further revealed that Kano was selected as the headquarters of the Technology and Innovation Center for Global Competitiveness (TICGCOM) in the country’s northwest zone.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sagir Abbas summed up the university’s giant strides in research and innovation.
Abbas reiterated their commitment to work with the ministry to achieve the goal of moving the country forward technologically.
Also Henry Eteama, Global Competitiveness and Strategy project manager, said efforts were made to ensure that the results of scientific research remained not only academic but also industry-driven.
