The crisis in the Benue state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) worsened when Dickson Akoh, the commander-general of the Nigeria Peace Corps, decided to retrieve the jeep he had given to the state party chairman, Abba Yaro.

At Akoh’s request, the president has reportedly returned the Toyota Sequoia Jeep that the Peace Corps boss had given him three years ago.

good news

Akoh, a leader of the party, is said to have been angry at the turn of events at the recent APC neighborhood conventions in Benue South.

On Thursday, Abba Yaro handed over the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to the area commander of the Nigerian Police Force in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

Akor, through his attorneys, Sule Abakpa & Co. on August 18, 2021 write the area commander of the Nigerian Police for Makurdi Metropolis requesting “police escort for the return of the Toyota Sequoia Jeep belonging to Professor Dickson Akoh of Comrade Abba Yaro.”

The Peace Corps CG said he did not give the car to Comrade Yaro as a gift, but to allow the party chairman to move around at the time.

The letter reads: “We are lawyers for Professor Dickson Akoh, of the Nigeria Peace Corps Headquarters, Abuja, (hereafter referred to as our client) on whose behalf we are making this application.

“Until now, our customer comrade Abba Yaro had provided his Toyota Sequoia Jeep and its original data for use when it was not mobile.

“Comrade Abba Yaro is now mobile and our customer is demanding the immediate return of his vehicle and its original details. In order to avoid clashes, we humbly request police escort to accompany our client and/or his agent to collect the vehicle from Comrade Abba Yaro.

“Thank you in anticipation of your prompt intervention.”

Akoh’s letter is signed by two lawyers, Paul Ocoliko and PM Okpo on behalf of Sule Abakpa & Co.

Meanwhile, Abba Yaro returned the jeep to the police on August 19, 2021.

According to Forefront, he also wrote a letter to the area commander of the police.

Yaro’s letter titled “Re: Request of Toyota Sequoia Jeep belonging to Professor Dickson Akoh” reads; “Reference to the above complaint letter from Professor Dickson Akoh dated August 18, 2021, I Abba Yaro, have returned the alleged Sequoia jeep in perfect condition to the area commander for onward transfer to the professor.”

While the APC is currently preparing to hold its local government conventions, some of the party’s state chapters are still struggling to overcome the controversies that followed the party’s district conventions.

Many politicians in Benue are leaving the APC en masse for the PDP.
