5 Unknown Mistakes That Shorten Your Phone’s Life
Nowadays it is almost impossible to imagine a life without a mobile phone, and it often happens that our devices start working half a year after we have bought them, which is frustrating! But in most cases, it’s our fault, we don’t always handle our devices properly. When did you last read the manual, how to charge the battery correctly, what you need to know about the protective cases, why do the batteries of these phones run out so quickly? We’ve got 5 awesome tricks that will make your smartphone last longer.
1. Don’t buy cheap chargers
There have been situations where a person used a fake charger and a house fire started, and another terrible thing that can happen when you use fake chargers is getting an electric shock. Look! We are not trying to promote anything, we only care about your safety.
2. Remove your protective cover
If your smartphone has a bulky protective case, it can cause the device and battery to overheat during a long charging session. Therefore, if you use a bulky protective case for your device, always remove it when you need to charge the battery.
3. Drain your battery every now and then
It is recommended to discharge your phone’s battery to 0% every 3 months and then immediately charge it to 100% to avoid extreme charge/discharge.
4. Clean ports and clean screen
Since most modern phones have touchscreens that we touched all the time, they get dirty over time. Use lint-free cleaners to clean the screen and never use glass cleaning fluids in anything you do, as they contain ammonia that can irreversibly damage the screen. Carrying your phone in the main compartment of your bag can also clog the port with dust and small debris that can cause connectivity issues. This is especially dangerous for the 3.5 mini-jack. The thing is, the port itself is quite long, so if some dust gets in there and you don’t know it, the next time you try to plug in your headphones, just push the part in even further. Remove dirt, turn off the phone and gently clean all ports with a toothpick. Make sure to put a soft, lint-free cloth on the end.
To avoid such situations, choose a compartment in your bag exclusively for storing your smartphone.

5. Avoid software updates
Large companies release major software updates once a year. We do not recommend updating your phone two years after the launch of this model. Trust us, the performance will get worse, and it’s not because the manufacturer is so greedy and wants you to buy the new model. It’s just that technologies are constantly evolving and your hardware stays the same. They need to update the software to improve the functionality, which your phone may not support. Therefore, at least read the user reviews before pressing the update button. The problem with these updates is that it is very difficult or impossible to go back to the previous version of the software unless you are the Mr Robot-Hacker type, think twice before updating.
